As of 2015, CREF is a designated center for the taking of the Test of Russian as a foreign language ( TORFL – ТРКИ). We offer the following programs in the preparation for taking the following tests :

  • Test of Russian  for migrants wishing to obtain a work visa within Russia: this test is mandatory for all foreigners wishing to obtain a work permit within Russia.
  • Test of Russian   to obtain a temporary or permanent residence permit: these are the mandatory tests for those who wish to settle long-term in Russia.
  • Test of Russian as a foreign language Elementary, Basic, ТРКИ 1, ТРКИ 2, ТРКИ: These are the official certificates of knowledge of the Russian language issued by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, and are internationally recognized.

How are the tests for the work permit and residence permit structured?

The test of Russian  includes:

A series of tests of the candidate’s knowledge of the Russian language:

  • A test of Russian grammar-lexicon: 20 questions in 10 minutes, without a dictionary. This test is successfully completed if the candidate correctly answers 6 questions;
  • A written comprehension test: 10 questions in 15 minutes on a short text (a dictionary is allowed). This test is successfully completed if the candidate correctly answers 6 questions;
  • A written expression: An exercise to be completed in 15 minutes. Generally, the test consists of completing a form / fill a form letter from the information given.
  • An audio comprehension test: 10 questions in 15 minutes. Candidates listen to the audio tracks twice after having skimmed through the written questions. This test is successfully completed if the candidate correctly answers 6 questions;
  • One oral test: 10 questions in 10 minutes, asked by two official examiners, without prior preparation, and without a dictionary;

A test of knowledge of Russian history: this is a multiple-choice test of 10 questions to be completed in 15 minutes on the general history of Russia. This test is successfully completed if the candidate correctly answers 5 questions;

A test of knowledge of Russian legislation (in a general sense): this is a multiple-choice test of 10 questions to be completed in 15 minutes on general Russian history. This test is successfully completed if the candidate correctly answers 5 questions;

This test of Russian  is written in its entirety in one sitting; all sections of the test are written consecutively, over which time the candidate cannot leave the test room for any reason.

How to prepare for the Test of Russian for a working permit or residence permit?

To pass this test, you must have a level of Russian at least at the equivalent of Level A2. To find out your current level, please take our online test.

If you are a beginner or need additional courses, CREF offers linguistic courses held in groups or individually, at an intensive pace, or adapted to your needs.

If your level of Russian is sufficient, you can prepare for the test on your own, or with a teacher in a group lesson setting, or with private lessons.

Before each examination session, CREF offers a test-preparation session. During this session, given by an English-speaking Russian-born teacher, you will:

  • Study the main points of Russian history, and review a list of potential questions to be given on the day of the exam;
  • Study the main points of current Russian legislation, and review a list of potential questions that may appear on the test on the day of the exam;
  • Understand the different types of tests of the knowledge of the Russian language, and ways to bypass the pitfalls posed by these tests;
  • Write a practice test with the teachers.

Each session of test preparation consists of 12 hours, during three days, the week before the test. Each study group has a maximum of 10 students. The preparatory session’s cost is 8,000 rubles, including VAT.

CREF has received an official license from the Department of Education of the City of Moscow; therefore, these courses can be paid for by your company. It is also possible to organize a training session at your company’s Moscow location, or on an individual basis: please contact us so that we can calculate and send you a quote. 

How to register for the Test of Russian?

It’s very simple to register. Just send an email to us at russian@cref.ru with a scanned copy of your passport.

Upon receipt and processing, we will send you a contract to sign and return, no less than one week before the test date.

How much do these tests cost?

  • The taking of the full Test of Russian for a work permit in Russia costs 5,780 rubles (TTC).
  • The taking of a make-up test costs 2,240 rubles (TTC).
  • The taking of the full Test of Russian  for a residency permit (temporary or permanent) costs 6,260 rubles (TTC).
  • The taking of a make-up test costs 2,240 rubles (TTC).
